From my research this transmission made by a joint venture between Mazda and Ford has had major problmes. And put it in gear, it held its own very well. From my research this transmission made by a joint Venture between Mazda and Ford has had major problmes. All help and advice are greatly appretiated. I conveyed this entire story to the service advisor, mike siemons, at haldeman Lincoln Mercury dealership and he gave me the customer service number for Ford. Thank you, Scott If the problem is associated with an electrical issue, it will be picked up on a scan, with the original post you say it was problematic when cold, I am wondering if you have had the line pressures checked as yet, there may be a problem with the governor or sticky valves with in the valve body, this will not set a code, but may show up as a pressure issue with a line pressure test.
I have a 1998 Mercury Mystique, andi think the transmission ought to be recalled because I have seen countles numbers of transmission failures on searching the internet and I happen to be one too, the transmission wen T out on ours a few years ago while the car was basically new, found out I had warrenty on it stiill got that fixed, now a little over a year since thenand it's went out again, but I have nno warrenty now which really sucks, so they has to be something going on with this model of car because there is too many transmission problems with so many people. If the oil pressure is low it might indicate a bad oil pump, or the seals you will replace. They thought it was all electrical but now tell me they need to pull the transmission and check three things inside it. Could be something as simple as blown piston seal too though, that would not damage so many parts. I had the car towed to a local service station. They replaced the starter and a cracked serpantine belt.
Yay, or so I thought, today, went to work. I pulled over, turned off the ignition and looked under the hood. You should be revving about 2400rpm at 65mph. Took the car for a ride and it ran perfect. The other thing you can check is to make sure that the wires that go from the overdrive button are not broken off or coroded. Just drove it six miles.
This is the second idle air control valve I put on this in about 3 weeks. Could this be the computer thats bad and throwing my car out of wack? I have the Haynes manual. I pulled over, turned off the ignition and looked under the hood. Therefore it is important to use the exact type of transmission fluid stipulated by your Mystique's owner's manual. Started the car and adjusted it until idle was at about 800 rpms actually just looked at the rpm meter. Start to drive again and it wont shift, you have to let off the gas like your using a manual trans.
They plugged it back in,cleared the computer and changed my tranny fluid and i was good to go. I bought a new battery and when I hooked it up the engine started turning over. That's what I keep thinking also. The other thing you can check is to make sure that the wires that go from the overdrive button are not broken off or coroded. Would call me by the end of business today. Very old transmission fluid will cause slipping in the transmission; if this is the case, it should be changed along with the filter Hope you find that this answers your question. Then I stopped for a light and drove again and it would not shift again.
Many vehicles with manual transmissions do not have a dipstick and their fluid level should be checked by an automotive technician as the car will likely need to be hoisted on a lift. I had it towed to a near bye service station. At first forward gears will work somewhat but later all forward drive disappears. Thank You for all your help and advice! We've worked hard over 11 years designing a website experience that makes it easy for anyone to idenify whether parts fit their car. So today I unplugged the battery and reset the computer and I left the idle air control valve unplugged. Until this point I was reluctant to take my car to the dealer because they had been extremely unresponsive to past issues I have had with the transmission shifting delayed and hard and also with the check engine light and a engine timing issue.
Since 1986, Westar has specialized in distributing top-of-the-line engine mounts and related parts to the automotive aftermarket. Shut the car off, put it in park, restart and you can drive away and the trans shifts like a dream until it decides to act up again. There is nowhere for broken pieces to go but through several other rotating parts before bits get free to be caught by magnet. I had the car towed to a local service station. Put it back in gear and it acts up.
It looks kind of like the oil pan but of course on the transmission. If you have automatic transmission problems in your Mystique, ie: it hesitates when shifting gears or seems sluggish shifting from one gear to the next 1st to 2nd gear, 2nd to 3rd gear, 3rd to 4th gear, etc. If that's what happened get ready to replace lots of parts. You are right about the burnt smell. I than had the car towed to haldeman Lincoln Mercury in allentown, pa 610-797-5005. It shifted fine for the first 1 mile.
Does that include the bands and all I need? Now I started the car and chocked it and put on the ebrake and I put it in gear, right away the car wanted to go, rpms came up and it pushed. The magnet in these things is awesome, virtually everything caught by it, you should have seen how much there was. Then I stopped drove again everything perfect. . When happens, may not have much burned fluid at all, depends on how much time spent abusing clutch pack that won't lock up. Until this point I was reluctant to take my car to the dealer because they had been extremely unresponsive to past issues I have had with the transmission shifting delayed and hard and also with the check engine light and a engine timing issue. If not, no need in spreading the parts all over the place.
