Why change the sex of Kono? It premiered on on Monday, September 20, 2010, 42 years to the day from the premiere of the original show, September 20, 1968. I can't wait for season 7! I was a huge fan of the original Hawaii Five-O, so when I heard about this attempt at a new show, I was excited but skeptical at the same time. Archived from on May 22, 2015. One of the other things I enjoy about the remake is the edge of the new show. Some of the dialog resulted in an approving chuckle from me. Don't get me wrong, James MacArthur's Danny was well acted, but that version of Hawaii Five-O was written about and around one person. Would it deserve to be called 'Hawaii Five-O'? Watch yourself a reality show like Cops if you're going to harp on it.
Now for the pilot episode. The 4 main actors are excellent and they have a good chemistry together. It seems unbelievable that her character would land a job like this, fresh out of police academy and with no real police experience. He also acts typical-Italian with the hand gestures. This show feels like the antidote to all those forensic, gritty, supposedly realistic crime dramas out there today.
I can't wait for season 7! All he did was stand back and watch as Danno had tantrums. The writers and producers have a long way to run with this thing. Archived from on February 9, 2012. It's like stumbling out of bed in the morning not exactly sure what you're going to do that day. Other guy is kicked out of police force because they say he took bribes, but he says he didn't then McGarret just let's him back in? McGarrett chooses as his partner and former Detective Danny Williams, and together McGarrett and Williams lead a team that includes Chin Ho Kelly, Tani Rey, Lou Grover, Lori Weston, Junior Reigns, Kono Kalakaua and Jerry Ortega.
Like a lot of people we were looking forward to the new series of Hawaii 5-0 but i have to say that after 2 episodes i am not sure i can watch it again. They deliver without turning this into Baywatch. I've never seen the original series, so that's why maybe I like it so much, since many who've watched both the original and remake aren't very happy. I thought that the first episode might be a one off in terms of a formulaic plot development and story line and that it could only get better. I resent the attempt to use it to gussy up an otherwise conventional show that on its own might not last a year.
As far as some of the elements people have been bitching about like the governor offering full immunity to his group, so what? The finale was awesome and as usual, I loved every minute of it. Steve and Danno's bantering with each other is hilarious. Alex O'Loughlin and Scott Caan are perfect. Beating a prisoner to get information out of him? Daniel Dae Kim is fine in his role. Archived from on June 20, 2011. Molokai, Kauai, and rural areas of Oahu have all been displayed in a beautiful radiant fashion.
If you're a fan of the original series, your take on this revamping will probably depend on how much a purist you are. I bet money that one of the story lines down the road is where Danno's ex-wife's husband turns out to be some kind of crime figure and Danno busts him and get's his wife back. Having said that…the series would work better if it had created new characters. It ain't here in this show! Wasn't McGarrett suppose to be part Hawaiian? It's a great cast and so far the story lines are very good. Frankly, I don't know what reviewers here are complaining about since we're actually getting a detailed origins story up front, which the writers didn't even bother with the 1968 original. While the pilot and first few episodes didn't take advantage of the beautiful backdrop of Hawaii quite enough, they sure have made up for that over the season. The fresh takes on the original characters are a breath of fresh air. The plots of each episode move very quickly, and I am able to pick up new things watching an episode a second time. If you never watched the original series, give this one a chance. I'm also excited because this episode was quite good and it was only the pilot.
My ten year old daughter could write better stories than this. Danno is a hothead who is always going over the top. I didn't expect this show to be totally like the original series because, hey, this is a new day. Respect has to be earned if it's supposed to mean anything and it allows for more, not less, character development later on. Had the producers started fresh with new characters, but kept the spirit of the original formula intact, there would be less tendency to compare the two series; each would stand on its own merits.
The camaraderie reminds me a little of: some Starsky and Hutch, a dash of 21 Jump Street, and yes the feel of the original Hawaii Five-O is there. Some of the personal background could be better developed over time rather than cramming it into one episode while chasing the bad guys. Hawaii Five-0 is an American police procedural drama television series and a re-imagining of the original 1968—80 television series. My take: I like it because it's fresh. Archived from on October 15, 2014. The dialog and some of the background setup Danno's family situation, for example was a bit too cliché.
